Is the rail included?
No. It is a standard round wooden rail, Ø28 mm, sold by the metre at hardware stores such as Jumbo or Hornbach. Cut it to the gap between your uprights plus 18 mm, which is 822 mm for an 83 cm bay and 411 mm for a 42 cm bay.

Push two steel pins into the holes on the inside of the ladder, the way you would for a shelf. There are 54 heights to choose from, 32 mm apart.

Slide the bracket over the front upright, 2 mm above its place. Let go and each pin drops into its hook.

Rest the rail in both cradles and push it back 30 mm. It drops 5 mm into a pocket, so a hanger pulled upward does not lift it out.

| IVAR depth | Rail from the front | Hanger sticks out | Bracket |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 cm | 100 mm | 110 mm | 131 × 115 × 20 |
| 50 cm | 186 mm | 24 mm | 217 × 115 × 20 |
For a 42 cm hanger. Figures from the CAD model, placed on IKEA's own 3D files of the IVAR ladder.
Both sit in the same cradle. The wooden rail goes in as it is. The steel tube is thinner, so it gets a printed end cap on each end that brings it to the same Ø28 mm.

The rail drops 5 mm into a pocket under the lip of the cradle. A hanger pulled upward lifts it against the lip, and it falls back in. To take it out you lift it, pull it forward 30 mm, then up.

Yes, with its own bracket. In a 30 cm IVAR the rail sits 100 mm from the front and a 42 cm hanger sticks out 110 mm. In a 50 cm IVAR it sits at 186 mm and the hanger sticks out 24 mm.
We will publish a figure once a pair has passed our load test on a real IVAR. Until then we would rather not quote a number from a calculation.

Yes, without tools. Lift the rail 5 mm, pull it forward and out, then lift each bracket 2 mm and pull it off. The pins come out by hand.
